Orange wire 'comes' from the LR voltage regulator. It provides switched accessory power for the bilge pump, electric trim and on some models the CDI.

For the bilge pump the Orange power feed goes through a 3 Amp fuse on the terminal board. From there it runs directly to the bilge pump.

The Orange wires does not connect to any battery post. The Orange wire, if it is indeed the same Orange wire I am talking about, originates inside the electrical box.

The LR module has an Orange wire that connects to the Orange terminal group on the terminal board inside the electrical box. From that Orange terminal group it feeds to the other things that receive switched power.

The bilge pump is one of those things. This is shown on the wiring diagram for the electrical box.

I suggest you open the electrical box and confirm where that orange wire connects to/from.

It is always possible someone has messed with the original wiring. It may be orange in color but not hooked up per factory configuration.

Sometimes wire colors fade and change color, this has fooled people before.

Note: Always disconnect battery negative post before digging into the electrical box. Reconnect battery cable only as needed for testing, and always keep the box shell away from directly touching the battery posts.
