    18/30 impeller

    Hey all, just wondering if anyone has run a 18/30 impeller in a fairly standard r12x? and what were the results?

    Stay with a 17/29. I do not recommend a 18/30, even for modified craft.

    Thanks for the reply, but why? Sorry for sounding ignorant. Is it just holeshot that is sacrificed with a 18/30?

    Its in a jet boat, so im more interested in the characteristics it gives, not just a 17/29 is better, which yes i would dare say it would be better all round, i brought a new genuine jetunit last year with a 17/29 in it and from brand new it still had slight cavitation in holeshot, so im wondering if a 18/30 will give more grab out of the hole, yes i know it will bog a little bit, but the r12x's seem to have a lot of go down low to compensate for the larger pitch impeller.

    run a 17/29

    check the clearance of the prop to the wear ring. even when new, the clearance is around .010" You can have it tightened to .03" or .04" and this will improve out of the hole performance.

    Yup done that, got it to about .05 it improved it but its still there slightly.

    reduce restriction in the intake tunnel if possible. increase restriction in the venturi. make a pump cone spacer, or make nozzle rings to neck down the outlet.

    Cool thanks, the pump intake is fairly free flow, half of it was cast from the ski and the rest was fabbed, i like the pump cone spacer idea though, does that just allow for more volume behind the impeller? And a machined up a couple Venturi restrictors and it made it worse. Its almost like it needs to flow more water, well thats what it feels like
