    Shudder when operating IBR

    Hi all,

I just purchased a used 2011 GTI SE 130 with 30 hours and it's running great less one issue. Whenever I use the IBR to change to reverse, neutral or forward, the engine seems to shudder slightly.

Any ideas on this issue? And, are the factory shop manuals available?

    Many thanks in advance

Are you sure it's the engine that shudders or could it be the IBR bucket itself?

Too few hours to be IBR bushes / inserts ( they can wear over time).

What are your idle RPM's with the engine at running temp?

Idle RPMS is 1600. When I manipulate the IBR, they momentarily dip to 1500-ish.

Is it possible that the IBR doesn't have enough power and is going to the engine for compensation? Just guessing at this point...

FYI, I was able to find a shop manual, but still haven't been able to figure out what the problem is.

IBR draw a lot of current, you might want to check your battery.
Battery might have lost a bit of his CCA.

Also check battery connection, if there is no rust.

There are several bushings on the iBr gate that could be damaged and or binding. Raise (iBr Override) the gate per the Owners Manual, then dismantle the gate looking at all the roller bushings. Remove the gate completely ensure everything is CLEAR, then operate the iBr up and down to test the motor. You should find out real quick if it is the gate or motor causing any problems.

While your here, you should check the pump, wear ring, impeller, drive shaft etc…….

I believe the battery to be the culprit. I charged it for about 2 hours and the problem stopped for a bit, but did reoccur after a few minutes. I think this is the original battery (2011 with 30 hours), so looks like it has sat more than it's been ridden.

The battery reads 12.8 volts without the engine running and 13.8 with it started. I pulled the battery caps and it was low in every cell. I estimate I added about 10 ounces of distilled water total.

I anticipate replacing the battery soon and will update as needed.

MANY thanks to all on this site for your assistance.

Replaced the battery and it runs great on the hose. I plan to water test tomorrow.
