Yamaha 2001 xlt 1200 cylinder question

just bought a Yamaha 2001 xlt 1200 . compression is about 99 in each cylinder. took the head off and the pistons measure 79.95 close enough to spec of 80mm even a little under. the pistons and cylinder look great. no scoring or pitting just nice clean and smooth cylinders. so why the low compression? Thanks

When you checking compression, make sure the throttle is tied open, pull 1 plug at a time, and unplug servo motor so the valves stay down. Also battery must be up to full capacity or you will get lower than normal readings
