Thinking of making my own waterbox... Need input

Long story short work is dead and I need to pass time so if this ends up being a flop I'm still making money.

What diameter and length should make the waterbox?
Do the inlet/out have to be on top?
Where should the water lines go?

My end vision is basically a tdr box just homemade. This is going on a 08 if that's any help. Just an idea at this point I'm bored out of my mind at work.

on an 08 the inlet is 4" and the box is 8" diameter and around 10" long , make sure its thick enough too . My TDR box has a double rear wall about 1/4" thick . weld the ends on the inside of the 8" like TDR's .

Thanks would it make a difference if the outlet came straight out the back or does it have to come out of the top?

Um, one suggestion......remove your current setup and build it inside your hull, checking alignment 10x's...

Exit needs to have a bend up to keep water from entering when not running, otherwise its right at the water and will fill quickly...along with the motor.

I suggest modifying your OEM unit instead.

I'm doing the waterbox mod and a rear exit within a week or 2. This is just a side project if it work it works if not then oh well.

If you cut open the stock box and remove most of the wall, then cut the stock box's exit and replace with a 3inch diameter tube, and accompanying piping/rear exit, it'll breathe a helluva lot better.
I built a custom box with a 3 inch inlet (from exhaust mani) and a 3.5inch exit to ensure adequate breathing since I'm running more water through it. Overkill? Yes, but she breathes well. lol
Danny is right too, build it inside the hull. I was off one damn mm after going back and forth dozens and dozens of times.

The smaller diameter section is a sort of balance tube. There is another one before the hull exit. The low rpm drone is mostly gone, and this thing is pretty much open.

Here it is installed. The extra red line that is cut/blocked off is an extra line in case things get too hot. No problems so far. Max water temp was just shy of 200F.

My weld shop Tig'ed the water jacketing around the manifold for me. It would get too warm for my tastes, so I spent a few hours massaging a piece of aluminum to fit. Works pretty darn well too.
