Newbie with stx 15f - oil smells like fuel
I picked up a 2005 Kawasaki STX 15F last week. After getting it home my more mechanical buddies started looking it over. What we found was oil smells like fuel and was over full. We sucked the oil out that amounted to 6q. Manual says it should have 4.3. Ran it today for 15 minutes and seems to run ok as I am new to Jet Skis so i guess I don't know what normal would be. The speedo was showing 59 mph. It did not seem to get hot and idle was around 1200rpm. The ski has only 33 hours on it, is there anything I need to do to get it cleaned up and running strong again? Do I need to worry about fuel getting into the oil again or is it just from a long trailer ride? Also I got a low fuel warning which I saw coming but when I went to put fuel in it only took 11 gallons in a 16 gallon tank. Does the fuel gauge require calibration?

Keep an eye on the fuel smell, the fuel gauge is normal and you cant change it. When the warning sounds press the set button.

over filling oil is a common problem, be sure you know the exact owners manual method for checking oil. Fuel contamination of the oil is a fact of life on Kawasaki it seems. Oil changes are cheap engine insurance use good oil. You'll read here that oil contamination is typically found on supercharged Kawasakis
You have a lot of reading to do here..get started!
