After sitting for over a year

I recently returned from a year long deployment and I put my ski away (after winterizing at the dealership and getting an oil change) from October of 2012 to just about a week ago May 2014. Before I put it in storage I was easily hitting 70+mph and now it is struggling to hit 66mph. Before I took it out last week I also changed out the plugs. Any ideas what I can do to get it up to what I was at before it sat. The only other thing I can think of is running a fuel cleaner through the system, but the fuel tank was pretty dry when It was stored.

    Thanks for the help

The fuel system is my first idea. Run some fresh high octane gas through it and see how she goes.

Fuel will be an issue. Standing so long it will turn sticky and lose its energy. Even if you only had a little, it will still be in the system. Best to always store full of fuel and with stabilizer in.

For now run through some injector cleaner and get some new fuel through.

There are other things that it could be too, like the throttle needs cleaning / lubricating.

Maybe it's worth checking the SC slip. It should be rebuilt after 100hrs or 2 years whichever comes first. Losing slip tension will drop your speed / rpms very quickly.

    Start with these.

Gas, fuel injector cleaner, new spark plugs, and make sure the battery is in good shape. Let us know how it goes.

I did change the battery when I changed the plugs. Would an octane booster clean out the fuel system better than a standard fuel cleaner?

Just use a high quality fuel injector cleaner like Lucas or Chevron. Change the plugs again and hopefully you put in some good premium fuel with no ethanol (ie: Shell or Chevron).

Also run the ski and get it warm and check the oil. If it's overfilled with oil you'll be losing RPMs/MPH

I ran injector cleaner through it over the long weekend and I am still getting the same results. Ski's RPM's are not getting over 7500. I have also checked the oil as mentioned. Im guessing the SC needs rebuilt?
