Check the fuses first. Then check the wires coming from the stator, I have seen them melt before and lose charging. Very rare to have a bad regulator/rectifier on a 4tec.

Fuses would be the first check. Magneto's rarely fail unless the engine has suffered some kind of internal failure. It's more than likely a bad connection, or failed regulator. There are 3 tests you can perform on the magneto to make sure its doing what it should, all you need is a voltage meter that also reads ohms.

Unplug magneto from rectifier, and check the following:

    1) Ohm all 3 yellow wires in relation to ground, you should have no resistance to ground.

    2) Ohm wire to wire (3 checks required) to see magneto resistance. It should be between .1 - 1.0 ohms

    3) Check for ac voltage from wire to wire (engine running - also 3 checks required) voltage should be around 25vac @ 3500 rpm.

If these tests all check out, you have bad wire connections to the regulator... or a defective regulator.

Thanks for the replys. My ski is on a jet dock at a marina so what I can do is limited. So far I checked all the fuses and the 3 plugs that are located near the battery. Everything looked ok. Where is the voltage regulator located?

Its the 2010 in my signature. After some research I found it. In fact I had it out today and in my hand. Its the gray thing with the heat sink on it. Man that thing was old and crusty lookin. Any way to test it before I take a chance and buy a new one?

No way to test the regulator. If the magneto tests check out, and the wiring is good to it... it's defective if it's not outputting around 14vdc.
