When buying a Yamaha PWC, is there any 1 particular motor to STAY AWAY FROM

Like anything mechanical, I know that sometimes there are certain years, makes, models to stay away from.

Is there any year and/or model of Waverunner to stay away from?

How about motors? Was there any year to run from?

    I'm looking at a 2008 or newer

in my opinion , yamaha is the most reliable ski out there , their cheapest machine is the vx ,but again, it has been proven to go over 1000 hours, so be your own judge.
i will prefer a fx over any vx.

2008 an on yamaha has all good models the vx line (1100cc ) is bulletproof all years, as well as waverunners with the 1.8 litre naturally aspirated engine called the high output. ( fx y vxr line ) . if you want supercharged watercraft ( fzr or fx sho), 2009 models or 2013 models are the ones to go , the other years if the supercharger fails it can damage the engine. if you buy 2011 2012 supercharged model upgrade the clutch to 2013 version to be safe.

I have never heard of a Yamaha clutch failure taking out an engine. Failing yes, but not taking out the engine with it. I think you might have that mixed up with sea doo supercharger failures.

thats the way it is buddy , the 2011 design broke theeth of the gear that may result in engine damage , here is a link with pics. ( you can see the broken theeth) , this dont happen with the 2013 version.
