    Top speed claims..

Morning 'gents. Starting with a built 2 stroke XP last summer, and moving to an PX260 this season, I've had many conversations on the lake with other riders in regards to top speed. How accurate and truthful are most people? EXAMPLE: An older guy on the lake claims he's "seen 91" on his '02 RXP. I pulled up yesterday to a chick on a Yam XL something who claimed 75mph, and a '11 FZS visitor who said 85mph. Seems to me like everyone adds 10mph+ and a few extra inches elsewhere.

When someone tells me there ski runs some outragous speed number, I ask them to race, afterwards I tell them there 91mph ski just got beat by a 76 mph ski.

The sound and smell of most 80+ mph skis is pretty different

When I see a craigslist ad or a ski for sale and they say it runs an outrageous speed, I tell them we will take it to the lake and that for every MPH over what I know it SHOULD DO I will pay them $100 more than their asking price...If it is under wnat they say, they have to deduct $100 per MPH!!!!

I am working on the Spark Some Fun demo tour right now and I hear all kinds of claims, I just have to bite my tongue...

Had a kawi 300 last year say he was 80+. I asked him to go, just to see where i stand up. He pulled me out of the hole, mid was catching up and top end chased him down and pulled right buy. He let of the throttle, turned and f'ed off the other way. That was a good day!!!

Had a guy here with an old Tigershark claiming he does 70. I beat him with one of our gti 130 rentals. He asked if I was going 75. Said nope, 52.

Just hand them a compact waterproof GPS, set it to record max speed. Take $200 in cash as security, strap it to the hood (for maximum GPS accuracy with a broad sky view), then tell them to come back in five minutes with a reading.

The average GPS unit weighs about 500 pounds and has enormous wind drag, hence the much smaller speed numbers when the GPS is on board...
