Cavitation issues 97 Wave Raider 700cc

The ski runs pretty good, but freespins when you give it a lot of throttle from a standstill or under heavier loads. Also does not turn very fast at all. What all do I need to do and buy to fix this issue? Would it be as simple as resealing the grate? The impeller didn't looked chipped from what I can see, and I didn't see any debris. The former owner (my father in law), I know he got it stuck in sand a few times so lets take that into consideration. Are there any aftermarket grates or other aftermarket performance pieces I should consider? Thanks.

You should check your impeller to intake duct clearance. .010 -.020, service limit .024. If it is worn out, you found the problem.

You mean the pump housing? Do I just check the clearance between the end of the blade and this housing? - http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-YAMAHA-J...f33155&vxp=mtr

Yep. Check clearance between the blade edges and the housing. Check at several points.
