So i guess charging system works fine but could not figure out why light stays on

If that light comes on but a test with a meter says it's charging than you either have a dirty or loose ground cable somewhere or the battery is on the edge and is about to be bad.
Check and clean all of the ground wires that bolt to the mag housing in the front of the motor.

all grounds look good, it seems like there is only one ground for that gage and the wire is black.
I have a solid 12.5 volts at the red and purple wire feeding that multifunction gage starting from the rectifier, going in and out of the cdi according to the wiring diagram
and then connecting to that gage so my guess is the gage is bad?
