Hmmm...Oil warning (continuous beep) on 2008 GTI 130SE with no error codes logged

So I rode my 2008 GTI 130 all day last Saturday, and my 2009 GTI 130 was being used for tubing for the kids. My daughter and I did numerous WOT pulls and 180's etc throughout the day.

Later in the day my brother, who was doing tube pulling duty on my '09 all day wanted to have a little fun. I sent him out on the '08 and he did a few spins and some WOT.

He got the alarm (continuous beep) and said it was oil warning according to the display. He reset the lanyard and idled in without the error. The ski sat for about 30 minutes and then I took it out to load it on the trailer. It powered up fine and would idle without error but as soon as I gave it any throttle the warning would come back. I rest the lanyard and tried it a couple times and finally just idled to the launch and loaded it up.

On Monday, I launched at a different lake and rode my '09 all day, then just before leaving, I took the '08 out for a spin to see if it would alarm again. It did not, but I only rode it for 10 minutes or so, but WOT and some hard turns and got no alarm.

Purchased CanDoo Pro and read the stored fault codes and the only two there were "wrong DESS key" and "External Temperature out of range". Normal errors I would consider as both machines showed same codes stored.

Any ideas? I did search and found that the Oil Pressure senders may be prone to failure on some machines but couldn't find a specific range of years - maybe they're all suspect. Also saw how the Oil Pressure Regulator could be damaged by over-tightening, but no motor work has ever been done to these machines.

The '08 has 36 hours on it and the '09 has 32 hours.

    Thanks for any input!

    Mark

Did you check the oil level by the procedure called out in the book?

Yes - forgot to mention that in my long-winded post. Oil was checked per the book and was just slightly above exact middle between the bends.

When was the last oil change and what was used? Does the oil smell of gasoline? Chances are you may have a bad oil pressure sensor, but i would get a oil pressure test kit and ride it with it installed to make sure before i spent money throwing parts at it. Install the test gauge and ride till you get an alarm, then take the seat off and ride and watch the gauge while it alarms. If the gauge says you have the correct pressure then it's the sender. If you actually do have low oil pressure (which i doubt) the look into the regulator assembly.

Thanks - oil was just changed with SeaDoo maintenance kit.

Did some more testing today and it rode good with no alarm for the first 20 mins including WOT and some turns and jumping until I had to go through a long no wake channel. Once I got to the other side it alarmed at 3400 rpm and then would do so consistently until I trailered it. Once the lanyard is reset it will idle and go up to about 3400 rpm and alarm again.

Seems maybe heat causing sensor to go out of spec, but I get it... Find out for sure pressure is correct before buying parts. Oil looks / smells great and level is correct.

I have the same problem. I will install a oil pressure gauge to narrow down the problem the next time I am out.

    1) Have you checked your oil filter to make sure it has not been collapsed?

I have not but was thinking about that. I suppose a new one could collapse without water mixing in the oil. Is there anyway the orings could be bad and not pass oil out the cap? They looked new and I did not replace them during the change.

I just bought these used in the spring and the previous owner said oil was changed last fall.

There is an oil regulator in the bottom of the stator housing that can be sticky causing oil pressure faults ...

Pain to get to as the engine will need to come out ...

Is there only one sending unit on towards the rear under the intake on the NA 130? For $35 I'll throw that part at it after checking the filter situation.

I don't understand why it doesn't store an error code. Makes me think oil pressure is actually ok somehow and measured elsewhere for the ecm...I guess it doesn't make sense to me since clearly it is warning on oil with the beeper code 2 and Oil displayed on the cluster.
