The Hull truth and nothing but the truth

I have been going back and forth between the FX and 310R. I've collected most of what I need to know about the 310.

I am trying to clarify some "rumors" about the FX.

Those say the hull is weak, but have there been any failures on newer models?

When is it required to do the pump tunnel reinforcement?

Are there new clutches on the 2014s? Any known failures on the 14s?

If I want to mod and run around 80 mph, how much more am I going to shell out?

What kind of maintenance is required for the super charger?

    I appreciate all the help!

    Ryan

The required upgrades you will need to run 80 plus will run you at least 2 grand. I know, I just sent Jerry the money to do my FX SVHO Cruiser. Can't wait for the parts to arrive so I can start installing them.

Riva told me kawy hulls crack. Kawy is a Cadillac in the ocean but it's a pita to get over 75mph.

FX svho. Yamaha lasts forever. New clutches since 2013 have very few failures. I never had any after 50+ hours on 3 different SHOs all 2013s. Forged pistons, 1800cc, and capable of 80mph with just a $650 Reflash.

It all comes down to preference.

The SVHO is a monster and easy to reach 80mph.
The 310 is a nice ski, but it does have a brick wall speed wise that is very expensive to overcome.
I'll probably be picking up a 310 as my second ski so I can get even crazier with my SVHO and should the SVHO be down for repairs/mods have the 310 to ride (do like the factory sound system option).

I was leaning more toward the Kawi but I like being able to mod the Yamaha. The article sums it up. The FX is fun off shore and inshore.

I am concerned about the pump tunnel reinforcement. Is it necessary for a stock ski?

Another thing is I have a good connection at a Yamaha dealer. Yamaha is offering a trade up program which seems good.

If the clutches and pump tunnels are holding up I will probably stick with Yamaha.

I am waiting to hear back from Riva who is having a test ride event soon. Hopefully then I can make my final decision.

I know on my 2014 FZR the pump tunnel seems to have been addressed in that it looks more reinforced and they have added a couple things. But I am still having the reinforcement installed as its fairly cheap insurance and my plan is to push the ski past 90mph

If you're aiming at 80mph plus, the SVHO will get you there more easily than a 310. Better safe than sorry and the tunnel reinforcement is usually done on skis running serious speeds with aftermarket impellers. It isn't needed on stock skis. The supercharger clutch was addressed in 2013 and going strong with no interval servicing or rebuilds.
