    Polaris slx hood recall WTF

So cruising along the river today at about 65 and the hood on my slx comes flying off, hits me, and slams into the shore! Apparently the hinge on the front has a recall and mine hasn't had it done. So now my hood is jacked and I have to wait for the dealership to get permission from Polaris to fix it, even though Polaris told me they'd cover it and gave me a case number. So basically best case scenario I'm out 2-3 weeks of riding for something so simple

They only put a tether on the hood so if the hinge breaks it wont hit you in the head.

    Dang! That sucks.

I'm not sure if I'm more amazed that your hood flew off and hit you at 65mph... or that you got Polaris to do recall work on a ~14 year old watercraft.

Did the nuts vibrate off the bolts or something break?

    Cheers!

No it litteraly ripped off where the support arm attaches to it under the nose of the hood. I think they listened up when I told them it hit me in the face. I didnt mention I had a helmet on from using my go pro that was attached to it earlier in the day lol. But needless to say im probably going to need a new hood now this ones trashed.

My hinge started to break when at the gathering, a crap ton of duct tape held down the front of the hood so it did not fly off, i have the stuff to attach the tether. but have not done it, but I do have an extra hood, just in case. I feel since so many of us have skis like this we should look into having a metal bracket made? im sure it wont be cheap being stainless and all, but would completely remove the worrysome of the hinge breaking( now as long as the hood doesnt break ) anyone know where to start with this?

Talk to Derwood98. He had a few of the triple pipe hood kits made for the Pro 1200. It replaces the hinge with some metal brackets. I may know someone here locally that could make a few if we needed them.

Doesnt the factory add a metal bracket and the tether? my two buddies have slxs and both of them have a metal bracket on the outside.
