    Intake grate broke at 80...

Whats up with this? I thought we change these to prevent this kind've thing from happening? I was on flat water doing close to 80 when it broke and it nose dived and flipped right over me causing me to barely be walking at this moment. Was in emergency room all night and now I still can't use my leg do to something wrong in my grind and stomach area, not to mention hands are all stitched up. My Fzs is al locked up guessing its shot as well? Heres a pic of what I had under there, only pic my brother took since I can't get off the bed.

Get well soon! How much rough water and wave ridding have you done on your ski? I assume that is a R&D grate? Did you buy it new? Was grate sealed to the ski with any type of sealer? Where do you ride ( location) most of ther time? Sorry for all the questions but I am just trying to get more details. Hope you heal quickly, Tommy Jordan

Only did bay riding with it, never brought it to the waves yet... I got it at Island Racing new and installed a while ago.

OUCH.... Sounds like you are very lucky to be here still and good thing it was only 80mph and not 90.

When I had installed the R&D grate on my FZR and compared the casting to the factory grate, you can see the factory one is built much better. The aftermarket grate is a cheaper casting. I am sure if someone did a metallurgical test on the two to compare them or even load/stress tests the factory ones would be stronger. Still don't think I have heard of this happening before.
