Bad news - oil pump gernade 2009 GTI 130 SE with 35 hours on it
Just heard back from mechanic who took the engine out for me. The front oil pump gear is broken in pieces. He actually asked me if someone might have sabotaged it by dropping something down the oil fill. I told him no.
I certainly never dropped anything in it. So then he said it must have broke something loose inside that made its way back to the pump and exploded the oil pump. The engine then ran obviously without pumping oil. I'm still pissed that it never did alarm with what must have been little to no oil pressure.
I guess there's always a chance the gear itself was flawed or had a crack developing already from manufacture.
Now what to do with it?...even if I wanted to do an SBT I'd have to buy all new oil pump parts and cover etc. So by the time that's all done for another grand or two I could buy another one. What a joke. Pretty much worthless now but for a handful of parts that have some value.
I probably will be looking at a Yamaha for the replacement.
