    polaris slx 780 problems.

Hey i'm new to this but i have just aquired a 96 polaris slx 780. Everything works great and it starts up and runs good but i can't seem to get it to run over 3700 rpm. i cant get it to run faster if i bounce over waves but then it comes back to 3700. I do know that the motor was rebuilt 2 years ago but I have no idea about the carbs or fuel pump. any idea on what my problem might be?

    Thanks

Sounds like limp mode to me.

Yank the MFD and see if it still happens.

The mfd does not display any warnings.

It revs up higher than 3700 if you get the jet pump out of the water, correct?

How high will it rev on the trailer?

Do all three cylinders get equally warm? All three spark plug tips look about the same?

    Correct spark plugs installed?

    Have you checked cylinder compression?

An easy thing to do, just in case, is remove the spark plug boots. Trim 1/4" from the end of each wire. Screw the plug boot back on. This ensures the wire core is making solid contact with the threaded spike inside the spark plug boot.

Cut back wires suggested by k447 also do compression check he suggested. If all is good there proceeded to . What do plugs look like? Could be carb settings. Cut back wires and pull mfd fuse . If it still does it I would pull carbs for good inspection and maybe rebuild of clean depending ion findings. Let us know

Why would you want to remove the MFD fuse?

If the MFD is working, keep it powered.

If the MFD is dead (or suspect) then unplug it from the connector on the back side of the display. Removing the fuse for a dead MFD does not get around the possibility the dead MFD is affecting the ignition system.

I will check the plugs shortly and then trim the wires when I get a chance. I have not refer it out on the trailer yet but I had it up to 5000 rpm while bouncing it across waves.

K447 would removing mfd fuse not fix the problem just the same as disconnecting it if the mfd is funky? I don't know is why I am asking. Also its electronic so just cause its on does this mean its in 100 percent working order and nothing could be wrong with it? Pull the fuse or disconnect what's the difference? I am not a ski guru but do understand electronics and current flow. If there is a difference please explain.
