Something is not lined up right or is moving because of a bad motor mount, check the motor mounts first then check motor to pump alignment. Once the mounts and alignment are good then replace the boot, carbon ring, collar and C clip.

There is a tool to align the motor to the pump shoe (The plastic piece the pump bolts to) there is a plate that bolts to the pump shoe and a 4ft bar that slides through the plate into the rear of the motor. The pump shoe is not easily adjusted so the motor has to be aligned to the pump shoe by using shims under the motor mounts. Basically the pump is fixed and the motor is fixed and the driveshaft kind of floats in between as it's not fastened to anything. If the alignment is off then the driveshaft is off centre through the hull fitting and carbon ring causing uneven wear like yours. It's not uncommon to have the alignment off from the factory your dealer should be able to check the alignment before reassembly.

Anytime the engine is unbolted, it should be re-aligned.

If it has never been unbolted, factory issue. If it has been unbolted by a tech, then it is their responsibility to re-align it.

The moon shape you are seeing in the carbon ring is from your driving shaft rubbing it.. like others have said.. its out of alignment.
