Get the R&D, MUCH better hook up, keeps the ski planted better especially in choppy water and your speed will pick up.

#2 choice is the Riva SS, then Worx.........they are all better than the stock grate.

What are the normal gains over stock with the R&D?

I already answered that question. The R&D grate keeps the ski planted in the water much better especially in choppy water. Yields better holes shot, acceleration, and overall top speed.

As far as silicone the right stuff is what most people use. The problem with the R&D grate is that the back plate is very thick and wont fit flush with the hull.. You will have to grind it off on the inside by the mounting bolt holes, keep in mind that is a process grind test fit more grind more test fit until you achieve the perfect flush....
