    Engine Start with throttle engaged

Guys, new here so this might be a very simple question to answer. Does the spark (or probably every pwc) for that matter allow you to not start the engine if the throttle is being squeezed. The spark is fly by wire so I assume its pretty smart however the baseline spark has no IBR but if you add on a mechanical reverse kit I understand there are no sensors as per the larger pwc.

So my question is...if the throttle is squeezed while starting will it refuse to start or turn over? Almost like a neutral safety lock on a boat or jet boat?

should start with not been squeezed

Note if you squeeze it all the way open it with turn over and not start a safety feature this works maybe same for half way I will check it out

thanks. my question was more of a safety thing for the kids. If one of them has there finger on the throttle even a little will it start up and take off or does it need to be completely closed throttle to start? I can look this weekend when in the water but figured someone here would know.

Most newer stuff will kill either the injectors or spark, normally injectors, like most cars. I will try it this weekend on the trailer and let you know. Most drive-by-wire do this, as well as fuel injected all together. Carbs have no safety's as ther really can't monitor too much

I had a feeling that was the case. Or at least hoped that it was. Wont be back to our ski for a few more days to test that theory however I would assume and amount of open throttle would keep the motor from starting on a fly by wire. Almost like a neutral safety switch.

    OK
    did some testing today

1 the throttle fully pulled open does crank but NO start
2 the throttle half way starts straight up
3 the throttle just pulled starts straight up

So no safety on the throttle unless fully open

Well that answers that question. Thanks for the feedback and the test.
