Seadoo 1999 gtx 12v low, limp mode

Hi all wonder if anyone can help with this problem. At the end of last season I started getting 12v low warning on my ski and it limiting the speed. I assumed the battery had gone bad and locked it away for the winter. Yesterday I took it ou for the 1st time this yr and I installed a new battery but still had the same symptoms after 30mins or so. I checked the voltage and it reads 12.5v off, 12.8v idle and 13v with a little revs.
    Are these readings ok?
    Many thanks Daz

    you need a 13,8 v reading

Do you mean when idling or with revs?
Would this indicate a bad rectifier/regulator?

    cheers

idling 13.0-13.4,with rpm 13.8-14.2,yes it could be the rectifier .

Many thanks for your replies, is there anything else I can check before I order one up? Been trawling the forum and there seems to be a lot of talk about the stator. Should I test this first?

sorry for all the novice questions

    testing saves money.

Had a ski in a couple of weeks ago with a no charge situation. That was right after somebody else put in a new battery and regulator.

The actual problem turned out to be in the connector to the stator had melted due to some arcing and the pins were not making anything near good contact.(jumpstarting skis makes the charge rate max out and less then perfect connections will overheat. PWC electrics don't have a whole lot of excess capacity available to charge batteries that are nearly dead)

A test of a/c voltage at the regulator connector would have detected the true problem, as would a resistance check outlined in the service manual.

Of course swapping in a regulator is far faster if you have access to one

Hi again, i did some more tests today i checked for ground on the 3 stator pins and there was none. With the ski running rectifier unplugged pin to pin all 3 combination i got 23v ac on each. So am i right in thinking this means the stator is ok and just the reg/rectified is buggered?
    Cheers

If I unplug the rectifier altogether when the ski goes into limp mode, will this prove if the rectifier is shot?
could I run total loss, or would the battery die to quickly?
    cheers

replace the regulator. nothing good comes from unplugging it, unless you enjoy paddling a pwc.

the only way to prove is to replace with a known good one ( or new).

pretty common issue, pretty expensive part.

Do the 99's not have the combined rectifier with the MPEM? I know the 98 GTX does IIRC. Seadoo did this
for the 1 or 2 years only because they realized they really screwed it up by combining them.
