    VXR Ribbon Question...

    Dumb question...,
Is the VXR Ribbon technically a ‘Flame Arrester’
even though Yamaha calls it a ribbon in the parts
    catalogue?
Reason I ask is due to IJSBA Rule Book Stock Class 4-stroke Fuel/Air Delivery interpretation controversy regarding removal.
    Thx.

Thank you Bruce! This is a big deal.
What I need is something official, in
    writing somewhere, that states the
ribbon is in fact a flame arrester.
    Where can I find irrefutable
    confirmation? Thx.

    Yeah, me too.
Maybe someone else will ‘Chime in’.

IJSBA has considered the ribbon to be a flame
arrester and therefore has allowed it to be
removed provided a Coast Guard Approved
after market flame arrester is added to replace
it (R&D, Riva, K&N etc.). With removal the VXR
and Limited Class 2-strokes (R/A N/A Class) are
amazingly close in ‘on the water performance
parity’. Without the removal that parity goes
    bye-bye.

There is an effort underway to disallow VXR
ribbon delete because it is not technically
referred to as a flame arrester and it is
downstream of the throttle body bla, bla, bla.
    Thx bud.

    Issue resolved per IJSBA:

""IJSBA received several tech inquiries into the mesh ribbon component on Yamaha Four stroke Watercraft. The question has been whether the ribbon is part of the spark arrestor system or part of the emission system. This subject has been thoroughly researched by IJSBA under the supervision of the IJSBA Technical Director. We have now reached a resolution on the question and find the part, in question, to be part of the flame arrestor system and eligible for removal under Stock Class Rules.""
