Thread: Turbocharger questions

Looks like my MSX project needs some turbo work. was having max rpm issues & disassembled to find the compressor wheel has touched the housing.
I have been looking at rebuild kits & they seem pretty reasonable ($60 range) http://shop.midwestturboconnection.c...t-1302-003.htm
Was wondering if anyone else had tried this?
Does anyone know the exact model # of this unit? as I will need a new wheel.
Seems pretty easy to do, the old one came apart pretty easy but the wheel is toast.
Tips? Advise? comments? this is virgin ground for me.....
If anyone has a core charger I'd be interested in that too.

I've only ever dealt with the stock turbo. The one turbo I did replace... I found a good used one. Here is what Desperado said about the turbo:
The turbo cartridge is a common kkk k03 watercooled unit. These turbo are common on smaller VW and Audi engines. The only difference may be the diameter of the turbine wheel. A good turbo shop will get you going in no time with a brand new K03 cartridge at a fraction of the cost from what Polaris is charging.

I will say this. I have seen many rebuild there turbo and have it come apart due to improper reassembly in the car world. They turn at 250,000 rpms! I am having mine upgraded with the larger compression wheel but not the exhaust wheel as there is machining needed to make it fit. I have been informed you can reach 18+ psi with the kkk ko3 setup with just the compression wheel replaced and still maintain low end power.
For a stock replacement take it to a shop and have it rebuilt.
