787 RFI Crankshaft what to look for.
So my next project is an 03 GTI LE RFI with a 787. It has around 70 hours on it, and I bought it knowing it was getting too much oil some way or another. I adjusted the rotary valve, but to no avail. I finally removed the engine from the ski and now have the flywheel removed, cases split and everything. With a bit of research I was expecting it to be either Rotary Valve Seal, or Inner Crank Seals. Knowing my luck with things, I just assumed inner crank seals and decided to tear it down. In my inexperienced eyes, it looks as if the crank seals are fine. Is there anything I should really be zooming in on or are bad seals just discovered during leak down tests assembled? I did notice the Rotary Valve Shaft gear has been chewed away, and am planning on replacing the entire shaft regardless. Just wondering if I should proceed with doing the counter balancer and crankshaft I guess. It makes sense to just do them all now that i'm right here, but looking for some second opinions. I'll take some pics so you guys know what i'm talking about.

I've decided that with the low hours, no evidence of water, and everything basically oil bathed for awhile, that i'm just going to see how I make out replacing the Rotary Valve Shaft. All the bearings on the crank spun freely, and I noticed the cases had very little sealant anywhere. Do people go with the double lip valve seals or the single oem ones? I was just going to buy the whole shaft with everything already on it, but thought i'd check with others to see what they did first.

Just disassembled 2 - 717s with the same problem. 1 got a new SBT engine and the other we dumped the oil out of the rear crank half and are assembling the ski to to see if the oil leak in to crankcase was over a very long period of time ?? a few that i talk to seems to think it is a crankcase sealant issue at the cases.. the 1 engine we are reusing passed a vac test. question is would it pass a slight pressure test? also check the vent on your oil tank at the top.... make sure the check valve is not clogged.
