PWC to Sombrero Reef and Coffins Patch?

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of a trip to Marathon, FL and wonder if a ride to Sombrero Reef and Coffins Patch reef for a snorkeling trip is do-able on a PWC. Looks like it from what I have found. I have a marine GPS that I can program the locations, and they appear to be about 3 miles out.

I'll be down in Marathon the week of 7 July. Ordered my floating dive flag today , I've never snorkeled from my PWC; should be fun.

I recommend you check out this document (page 2) for the PWC exclusion / restriction zones:

On the way down stop at Mile maker 79 just past Islamorada there is a launch site on the right side of the road. the ramp is free you can ride out to alligator reef it is a lighthouse. It is only three miles out in the atlantic. When you launch at beach ramp make sure you do not get on it. it is a no wake zone until you are out past the power lines. also stay in the channels between the markers when you can since it is real shallow all over. you will be fine. great place to ride. also you have to ride out of john peenankamp park in key largo and snorkle the christ abyss statue before you get to ramp in lslamorada I talked about. early in the morning the wind is down and you can usually ride with minimal seas. looks like you have a better rough water ski.
