How did you get the stains out of the SMC? I have a problem with the local lakes staining orange as well. Tanic acid is what I've been told.

i took about 2 hours and sanded it with a DA sander and rough grit scotchbrit pad, then i shop vaced it out, then cleaned it with laquer thinner, then i sprayed it with a gas and oil resistant engine enamel.it took a half a day to complete it but i just cant stand those rusty looking stains..this engine enamel is pretty tuff to be a single part paint.ive used it a lot with no problems.dupli-color 500 degree engine enamel.
