    SVHO Grate

So how safe is the grate on these 2014 SVHO FZR's. I know it's a top loader but how well do they work far as keeping from getting bucked off? I will buy a R&D grate later. So far I'm very pleased with the R&D grate on my 2013 FZS.

Maybe I should have said the OEM grate. Definitely will buy a R&D later.

Well the stock is stronger than the R&D. I had the R&D on my stolen ski and will not be purchasing another one. Its build quality was lacking to say the least. The stock grate did not have any issues for me at 70mph in flat or chop. While the R&D did perform well I do not care for its quality so I am going to try the Riva or TBM next as I plan to be above 80mph and do not want to risk a broken grate sending me over the handlebars.

Thanks bud. So for now I'll be pulling it and stuffing it. Might rub on it a little like I did the R&D on the FZS.

I just went back to the stock grate on my 2014 FZS. It sucks for hookup compared to the R&D intake grate. If you like to play around with tight circles, hard turns, light-med chop riding....it comes unhooked way too easily. I wanted the piece of mind of it not breaking doing 75+...but may opt to run the R&D for general riding, as it stays connected much better.

As mentioned earlier...the quality on the R&D is sub-par to be kind. I'm thinking about having it inspected by an ultrasound tech to see if there are any weak spots prior to putting it back on. I have a good friend with a huge Fabrication shop that has access to the ultrasound machine.

What did you do to modify it?

Does anyone know when the stainless riva grate will be released. That should be stronger than the R&D grate.

I sent RIVA an email after the thread about breaking a grate @ 80mph and they said that it won't be until next year for the SVHO. They have other projects they are working on and will get to it when they can.

I have seen that SilentShooter has a different answer from RIVA...he lives closer and may be talking with someone in the know. I just emailed them and got my response above. I hope they release it soon.
