    1800c oil filter alternatives

Does anyone have any experience of using OEM filters ?

The Yam filter 69J-13440-01 is about 28 ($45) in the UK hence considering using Fram PH3614 or K&N HP-1002.

I always change the oil and filter more often than the manual states hence its going to get expensive.

My FXHO is over 5 years old so there won't be any warranty issues. Probably use different oil to Yamlube as well.

The 1800 uses the exact same oil filter as a late model V6 Toyota 4Runner. Specifically, you can use a 2008 V6 4Runner to cross reference any brand filter out there.

The Yamaha OEM filter is not a std paper-media type filter.....so I personally was apprehensive to use that type even though many cross-reference to fit. Even so, the OEM filter is pricey.....so in looking for an alternative I found the Toyota filter made by Denso (Japan) part # 90915-20004. The Toyota Denso filter made in Japan is the same type of media as the OEM Yamaha in that the media is laid up on a "skeleton" or "frame." It's also slightly larger for more capacity -and- it's cheaper.

The down-side is you'll have to do a little work to find them as Toyota has replaced them (in the US) with part #
90915-YZZD3.....also by Denso, but made in Thailand and a conventional paper media filter.

As for oil....my personal preference is Shell Rotella. I used T5 10w40 synthetic blend @ the 10hr service on my 2013 VXR and will use T6 5w40 full synthetic at the 25hr and each interval thereafter.

Here's a link which goes into the OEM/Denso filter comparison in more depth:

    Hope that helps.

I ran WIX filters on my race cars and my brother uses them on his 2000hp Sonny's hemi and that's what I use on my waverunners. As Jim said they are one of the best available.

That's what we use. The hp 1002 and only filter we sell at the shop. Ever had any issues with the k&n on any motor. And the built in nut is handy
