    Piston detonation again

Just rebuild 1999 genesis 1200 carb fall of last year. Rear piston was destroyed but decided to rebuild everything. This time it is the front piston. Wasn't able to run through a full tank of gas for the break in last year and was going to do it when I had a chance this year. But my brother-in-law took it out and didn't tell me. He said he took it easy but I don't believe him. What could have cause it to fail so fast. Not enough oil, rings didn't seat right, didn't let it warm up properly, not rich enough? It isn't seized because the piston wobbles around some.

Plugs look ok on the back 2 cylinders and when I checked them last year they didn't like anything was wrong.

Detonation is caused by either too lean of a mixture, inadequate octane, or timing too advanced. While rebuilding the engine did you ever go through the carbs? Does your ski have the gray tempo fuel lines?

Can you post pics of the damage? Did you leak test the motor after the rebuild? The front cover is a known leak spot when reassembling an engine. I know it sometimes takes me a few tries to get that cover sealed properly.
