    WR500 'pulsating' at WOT

    Hi all, new member...

One of my '90 WR500s now 'pulsates' at WOT and won't go above probably 10mph. I swapped out the CDI, coil, and thermal switch from my running parts WaveJammer. Still pulsates. I just put new plugs in, again same issue. I'm at a loss as I've also done a compression test (125 in each).

Any ideas? Based on the manual and searches, I'm out of options/ideas.

I found this thread (exact same pulsating) but it does not appear it was fixed.

    Thank you!!

Sounds like it's in limp mode. Good water flow coming out of pisser? What did the old plugs look like? Engine seem hot after running?

Well I would assume the thermal switch in the head would take care of this, but is it possible it's somehow 'stuck' in limp mode?? Also, my 750ZXi has a water outlet on the right hand side where the heated engine water exits. On the 500, I'm not sure where it exits to even be able to tell. When I run it on a hose, water will just pour out from under where the pump is.

    Thanks!!!

I'm just throwing some possibilities out there because I have no clue what the problem is lol. You need to look for a hull fitting somewhere under the run rail. If it has one, which I'm not sure if it does, and there's no water flowing, there may be a blockage in your cooling flow which will throw it into limp mode.

Did you check for exhaust leakage into the hull? Those older ones were bad about breaking a waterbox, also leaking from the rear exhaust plate that houses the output shaft.
