1999 Genesis FFI will only fire for a split second

I have a 99 genesis that has been running great... Until now..

It will not fire except for the moment that I pull the kil switch out... it will fire for a second but not run... it will do this every time I pull the kill switch out... any ideas?

    Carburetor engine?

If carb, what you describe is common symptom when the battery has become too weak to maintain enough voltage while cranking. Voltage must stay well above 10.6 volts while cranking or there will no spark.

Disconnect and bypass the LR-502 Start/Stop module. See if it now starts. Only the lanyard will kill the engine.

    already did that... same results...

another seemingly important peice of info is that the bilge pump hose came loose and filled the hull with water... pretty sure the emm got wet when getting on plane... realized it pretty quickly and got the hull drained etc... the starting issue happened minutes after this... not sure if there are connections that should be dried out etc??

Can the connections on the EMM become problematic after getting wet?

Have you removed all the EMM connectors and inspected for possible corrosion or contact damage?

The EMM is supposed to be fully sealed, as are the electrical connectors. If water may have gotten past any of the seals then inspection is necessary.

Any other connectors that got wet? Electric boxes still dry inside?

Bilge pump hose flooded the hull? Was the elbow part not mounted up high inside the hull?

checked the connections on the emm... everything looked good... the electric box looked not so dry. It looks like t
the bottom latch was not fully secure so some water and (small amount of) two stroke oil got inside...

the bilge hose does not have an elbow mounted up high... grrr must have inherited that from the previous owner.

-- I did get it to fire and run for a second... but I don't understand why.... I disconnected the ground wire inside the electrical box (heard the MFD reset),and reconnected the ground... pushed the start/stop button... no fire... held it down and cycled the kill switch and it fired up and ran great for 5-10 seconds... shut it down and it went right back to the same problems...

I'm guessing now I need to completely clean, dry, reassemble the electrical box with ne dielectric grease? any ideas?

Did you bypass the LR-502 Start/Stop module?

Leave it bypassed until you get the engine running properly.

Since it ran once, it can run again!

Bypass the module, check every electrical connection for corrosion or damaged wires. Especially at the crimped ends, but also where a wire may have been trapped in the electrical box seam.

Don't worry about the dielectric grease until you get it working. The grease just keeps corrosion at bay, it does not 'enhance' electrical connections.
