    GP1300R Rebuild questions

    Hi all,

Very experienced 2 stroke tuner and mechanic on the dirt, first time working on a PWC. I have a GP1300R that needs the middle cylinder and piston replaced. Its been setting years, but only has like 13 hours on it. There seems to be some indication that old gas or oil maybe clogged the center throttle body and caused it to lean out, or something similar from what I've seen.Other cylinders are perfectly fine.

Are there any tricks or tips I should know about on tearing this thing completely down (I had just pulled the head off to look), and what do you do in a case like that for a ski that has been sitting for 3 or 4 years with fluids in it, I'm use to bikes and motorcycles where there is a lot less fuel line and components in the fuel system to worry about, as well as no oil injection system, so this is a little bit of a new territory for me.

Is it worth pulling the whole motor out and checking the crank case, that looks like a hell of a job on this thing. Piston just burnt off the side and scored up cylinder, didn't look like anything was big or metalic enough to drop down to main bearings from what I can tell so far. Also, do you guys have a recommended shop to resurface head domes, or do most people install cool heads, or what do you do?

Welcome to the forum! I would recommend WFO Performance for engine recommendations. WFO or Jim's Performance can mill the head for you. They hang out on the 4-stroke site more these days I think.

Here is what I found inside - am I reasonable in my assumption that a lean out condition caused this in this particular cylinder from a clogged injector?

This thing had basically no hours on it, I think like 12 or 13 or something from new.

If I where you I would take the motor out and check everything over bet diaphrams are shot from ethenol sitting for so long and I would def take the piston and cylinder off to check really how bad it is , mine looked the same the the hole in side of piston was there ug .
Take off exhaust and you can pull cylinders off if you need

It definitely is gonna need a cylinder from the grooves in the side of it.

I have a digital service manual - how many hours is it to pull the complete motor out and look at the bottom end? That looks like a real chore from what I'm seeing so far. Bikes and motorcycles are much much easier to get around on

Its imperative I figure out what caused this also before it goes back together, so any tips or advice on diagnosing the fuel system and adequately cleaning/checking it would be most appreciated.
