What voltage should my ski run at?

While doing some elecrical work on my msx 150 I noticed it was running 15.9 volts. So I checked it at the battery and 16 volts, and this after weeks sitting connected. Is this normal? I know most 12 volt equipment will work up to 18 and sometimes even 20 volts so that is not a concern for aftermarket addons.

This suggest to me that this skis electrical system is actually 14 volt and also explains why using a car to jump the ski would cause damage, something I have read happens.

Also that puts the battery's cell load at 2.67 volts per cell. On the line of being over charged.

    Any thoughts.

On the up side an audio amp will run like a bad ass at these voltages A small digital 400 watt 4 channel amp running some focal components would rip.

Are you sure your meter is accurate?
Perhaps the multimeter needs a fresh battery inside?

The Polaris electrical system is fairly standard in terms of voltages. When engine is running the battery should be seeing about 14.5 volts, give or take a bit for temperature variations and state of charge in the battery.

Over 15 volts is simply too high, if in fact your voltmeter is telling the truth.

If you have a fully charged AGM type battery then it will rest at 12.8 volts or so, fully charged.

Often the voltage regulator can be defective and supply excess voltage to the battery.. (At least that's what I was told by the engineers).

I will cross check it with another tester.
