    Slightly OT, Diesel 2-stroke

    Just thought some guys would find this interesting. Rebuilding an old 2-stroke diesel in the shop today. 8-cyl 12.1L 2-stroke turbocharged diesel. Pretty cool, not all too uncommon in the 70s/80s in the form of 8v-71 and 8v-92, available up to 20/24cyl variants... Heres a few shots, I'll get more tomorrow. Pretty neat for old school tech.

    I believe its 2100 or 2200 on this model. Some are a bit less. I forget as it doesn't run currently and was running poorly when we got it in. Cracked liners on half the cylinders, and coolant in the oil.

    Its rated at 480ish hp and 1200ft/lbs of torque. The pistons are multi-piece cast iron, and the components are quite beefy. Compression is 17.0:1

    This one runs oil like a regular 4-stroke with sump, pump, and filter, but it does eat some as well. Here are a few photos of the failed coolant o-rings and cracked ports.

    If you can make it turn 6000rpm drop that puppy in a ski. I'd love to see someone roll coal in the water, lol
