Heavy Vibrating - Cleared on it's own... Thoughts?

    Hey everyone -

Riding around my new (27 hours from this summer only) Yamaha VX on the Kentucky River this weekend and after about 15 minutes of 40mph cruising I slowed down to see something on the shore to idle speed. Instantly the ski started vibrating heavily. The best way to describe it is if the ski was a huge cell phone and I was sitting on it. Instantly turned it off, waited and tried it again. Same situation. Tried accelerating and got the same vibration but harder and louder with top speed of 10mph. Limped it to shore and reached under, no weeds and no weeds seen in the lake. Reached my hands into the back and it was totally clean too. Pushed it back out and had the same issues. 20 Miles away from anything I decided to try to accelerate slowly up to speed yo see if I can dislodge anything. After reaching 50mph at about 4x the time it normally takes to get there and the vibrations abruptly stopped and it jumped to 57mph. All vibrations gone and it went for the rest of the day and the next without issue, another 8 hours of ride time.

Thoughts? Maybe a fish got sucked in far enough that I couldn't get it but enough to block some water?

    Thanks!!

Next time stop and clear it. Continuing to run it can cause damage.

Yep +1.......has happened to me....did not damage anything. Just have a good look at the impellor, shaft & pump housing.......... sounds like all is OK though!

It doesn't take much of an object to cause cavitation / vibration. I had a very small piece of plastic stuck in my VXR pump years ago and it did the same thing.

I am sure your Ski is fine; you have about another 2,000 hours of engine life left. Enjoy. JB

I had a garbage bag get sucked in and do that once. A friend sucked in a piece of plastic bottle the other day and it did something similar.

Thanks everyone - glad to hear it isn't a big deal. For the ones that want me to clear it before riding ... How? Take the whole grate off? I reached in the grate and the rear without luck

Take a flash light and look from intake grate and the rear nozzle to see if there is any thing in there, if so the easiest way is to remove the intake grate to clean it out...
