can a TPS be tested with a multimeter? 03 STX-12F

    2003 STX-12F
hard to start, runs poorly, throttle does little then jumps into full power for 5 or 10 seconds then runs poorly again. I am thinking it's the brains of the thing or the TPS.

    Any advice?

Could be TPS. Go through Sean's guide to troubleshooting here.

Sean's troubleshooting guide is very good. Even though I had already seen a spark I started over at the top of Sean's list and found a spark would jump from the #one plug to ground but not across the gap. I also had my injectors reconditioned (cleaned real well) at http://fuelinjectorconnection.com/sh...php?groupid=84

What I thought had to be a sensor or computer problem went away. It runs great.

I will try to add plugged injectors to the list this week, it seems to be more common now than it used to be, I assume from the filters getting older.

    Thanks guys,

It can be as It's nothing more than a potentiometer. You do need to use an analog or a good digital with bargraph . What you are looking for isn't necessarily solid values, although you can find those in the service manuals, but rather any places where you see the analog or bargraph cut out, or rapidly change value. It should be linear and smooth as you turn any throttle position sensor back and fourth.

With all that said I'd look elsewhere because I've not seen many go bad. Worth a quick look though..Good luck
