What would you buy if in the market for an 'old school" Yamaha ski?

Well, it's been several years since I sold my PWCs, and I'm getting the itch again. I have zero interest in any of the modern abominations---I already have a boat. Even the big two stroke triples like the 1300r are more than I want to deal with now. I have very fond memories of whipping around in the surf on a friend's 95 Seadoo XP, but not so fond memories of constantly repairing that thing for him. What ski in the Yamaha stable might be a good choice for a fast and fun little ski? I guess I thinking of something that is the watercraft equivalent of a YZ 125 (yamaha's 125cc MX motorcycle). Thanks.

    My first ski was a '97 GP760.
Easy to work on 2-stroke with room in the hull.
Small, tossable, 52 mph, and it did not come in "Miami Vice" colors.
You may have a hard time finding an aftermarket plate to stop the porpoising, though.

You can get an idea of the basic characteristics of different models, length, engine, horsepower, weight, by using the N.A.D.A. guide.

if you want a 2 cycle get a 05-08 gp great engine, no power valves if you are looking in the 1990's get a gp1200 remove the oil injection simple flame arrestors already has the adjustable mixture screws, has thru hull exhaust, they are great watercrafts

Is there a fix for that?? I have a 99 GP800 and had moved the adjustable sponsons up, down and every position in between and it seems to want to porpise at will.

Maybe a gp800 or gp1200 before the R came out. Those were comparable to the 95-96 xp in size before skiis started getting too big.

Thanks for the ideas. I see some wave raiders for sale locally that look pretty good. Any preference for the motor size (760 vs 1100). I more interested in maneuverability that absolute strait line speed.

Either one. 2 cylinder is cheaper to rebuild.
