    carb issues with 89 x2 650

My buddy just purchased an 89 x2 with a 650 in it. Before we did anything it would start and idle rough, blow excessive smoke, and die when given any gas. Pulled the fuel tank and cleaned it. Replaced all fuel lines. Replaced plugs with new br8es. Ran a compression check at 150 on each side. Pulled carb and completely tore it down. The low speed jet seemed to be clogged. Cleaned the whole thing and reasembled. Put it all back together and the ski starts and revs up now but it runs away. Had to pull the plug wires to get it to stop. So we think now we have an air leak. We pulled the carb back off to make sure we had the gasket seated correctly and we did. Any thoughts on what we need to do next? I know a lot of guys say block off oil and block off that crank case drain thing. Also how do you drain this ski if you get any water in it? Thanks for your help

    Reed cage gasket?

I prefer oil injection, just replace the hoses with polyurethane hose and secure with stainless steel safety wire.

Do the crankcase drain block-off. If you get water in it, pull the spark plugs (ground the wires) and crank it until most of the water is gone.

that was a wonder. We are going to pull it all off tomorrow and get a look at the reeds. Where do you find the block off for that mystery knob lol.

Going along with this, I've personally never owned an x2 but whats a good price on a stock one? Its in perfect running order has both block offs done and has turf but is bone stock other than that. Working on this one kind of has me wanting one.
