Splitting open the Supercharger
I think I had supercharger touchdown this weekend.
I heard a faint clinging sound while the engine was idling. When I removed the supercharger when I got home there was gray dust inside.
Is there a trick to splitting open the supercharger so I can inspect the inside? I removed all the screws but it still doesn't want to come apart and I don't want to break anything.

There should be three separate raised bosses around the perimeter of the housing. Put a 1/2" drive ratchet between them and turn. This will separate the housings,

If you got silver dust, you had a touch down...
Is the SC out of the ski? How many hours on the SC?
The housings can be split with a 1/2 socket, put it between the top spots and turn...there is a thin layer of sealant around the perimeter...

Thanks for the help. Yup I had a touch down. $#% there goes my riding this summer. I missed most of last year, while I waited for my exhaust valves to be replaced.
Just over 61 hours. I think my supercharger was rebuilt around 40 hours when I had the new washers installed. Here are some pics (sorry for the poor quality phone camera).
Now it is time to go looking for parts to see how badly I FOD'd out my motor.

That's an old kit on that charger... washers were the only thing replaced, if they were (hard to see in those pics).

As Bryan stated that is still the old style kit...those are Riva clutch washers....Unfortionatly you will need to rebuild the whole charger again...the new kit comes with everything you need, metal clutch washers, viton seal and upgraded shaft.....As far as FOD in your motor...I think you will be OK as it doesnt look like any impeller fins actually broke off....Take the ICer out and clean it completely with gasoline/brake clean..IF there is any FOD it will be caught in the fins of the ICer...

It looks like the bearings had failed. Before taking it apart I could only count 4. The rest and the plastic spacers had slide further inside the housing.
