Splitting the case and those damn caps stripped!
I tried to split the cases on my 03 GTX 185 hp and 3 of the caps stripped!!!!!
Any ideas how to get them out?

They have to come out to split the cases. Put some heat on the cases around the ext of the plug. Worst case use a large chisel to break them loose.

Yes the caps to split the case. I will continue the heat. What a pain these things are.
That link is the female end for a hex bolt or nut. These issues are with that cap. I will try a easy out with heat.

They are already junk, do like suggested and take a chisel/punch to the outer edge in a ccw direction and they should spin out

Had this happen before, used the next larger torx socket and took my time hammering it into the stripped ones, the aluminum will stretch easy. Came right out with applied heat, then replace the caps.

Next time use a 1/2" impact gun........ZIP and they're out!

any impact gun will most certainly strip the plug. I use a 1/2 breaker bar.
If you strip one out, use a die grinder with a cut off wheel. cut a slot across the plug and use a drift or chisel and tap on it to loosen it.

Haven't seen that happen yet Chris........but anything is possible.
