    Little Metal Shavings in Oil Filter ???

    Hey guys/gals. So I did a 3.5 qt oil change today and I noticed little metal shavings in old oil filter. Is this normal due to SC wearing or this a major issue needing a rebuild... 09' RXP-X 255 w/Stage 1 and has 71hrs. Any thoughts would be helpful ! Thanks for reading

    A picture would help. Carefully cut the paper element from the cartridge and spread out on a table. Metallic dust is ok. Tiny slivers are ok (from engine break-in). Chunks are indicative of an impending catastrophic failure. I highly doubt there are chunks, but a picture would help!

    I'm seeing little shavings and slivers. No chuncks that I'm seeing...

    Looks normal. For piece of mind, cut the element open after each oil/filter change to keep an eye on it.
    Check the supercharger slip. A stock X charger should be around 12lbs (someone chime in if I'm wrong).
    Then pin it to keep the oil co.'s stock prices up!!!

    Might as well drop in an ET wheel and spacer while you're rebuilding...

    I'd def be checking slip incase u need a rebuild faster than you think especially after your already planning one its Sod's law.
    But as stated looks fairly normal is this only 2filter change its had?

    It is the 2nd oil change since I have had it at 34hrs. I believe (hopefully) that it was changed at the 20hr mark by original owner. But 2nd only change since I have owned it

    Per SeaDoo manual: (with the newer kits)
    New/rebuilt = 6.6lbs to 10.3lbs
    Used = 5.9lbs to 8.8lbs

    This information is misleading, a stock 215 hp charger requires for the slip to be set at about 8-9 lbs of slip. This is too low for an x charger.

    Set the slip to around 12-13 foot pounds, when you check the slip add oil drops of the same that will be put in the engine, oil in between the clutches to simulate action inside the engine.
    Setting the slip a tad higher will be better because as you know the oils have anti friction additives that start to work with temperature and pressure.
    If you set the slip on the bench too low, once the charger it's on the engine the charger will slip at a lesser torque because the oil will be hot and the additives will be in effect.
