    R&D Grate + possible cavitation?

Just put on my R&D intake grate and took it out today for a full day of riding. I noticed off the start every once and a while (intermittently) it would stutter as if air got sucked in to the impeller area. It did this here and there but often enough for me to raise some concern. I would feel and hear it when it happened as I was cruising at about 55-57mph. i just got home and had a peak at the impeller and saw that there may be a bit of a ding in one of the blades. i did not take the pump off or do anything, simply looked in. The 2 pics are right below. The ding is the top of the impeller in the pic and in the center where i made an arrow. If anyone sees anything on the impeller could you let me know? Would a ding cause cavitation or the problem I am having? It did this in glass water and about 1ft-1.5ft of chop.

    Thanks!

Did you get the grate sealed up in the pocket near the ride plate?

You should fill the pocket and then squeeze in the grate. Clean up the squeeze out

The pocket I circled? Or do the same to the top end that was done to the bottom end?

so re do it and add more sealant so that it covers more of an area? I didn't do this so I am trying to get information to help explain it to my friend who did it.

I would pull the pump and have a look at the impeller. Depending on how much damage is on the impeller, that could be causing your issue as well.

So two different problem scenarios, correct?

Stutter when accelerating from idle. Was the engine revving high but the jet pump was not providing full thrust, or was the engine itself stuttering, perhaps hitting the red line RPM limiter?

What are the symptoms at 55mph?
