1997 sl 700 dies at full throttle

Can the regulator/rectifier cause the engine to die under full throttle operation? It will run good idling or anywhere up to 3/4 throttle when you open it up all the way it will lose fire occasionaly on 1 cyl then both cyl and other times both at the same.

My initial guess would be the stator or CDI is failing.

The battery charging system should not affect ignition. Even if the charging system was not charging, the battery should be able to run the ignition. Measure battery voltage with engine running. Does the voltage remain stable at 14.x volts even when you rev the engine?

The battery voltage is at 12.5 volts on my analog voltmeter when it is running at any rpm even full throttle until it dies

defo sounds like the stator/cdi is at fault.... should be seeing at least 13v at idle and above 14v above idle.. sounds like you have a good battery at least..

Does this type ignition system (CDI Box) require more than 12 volts to function at wot? Is there a DVA check for stator output to the cdi box?

The CDI requires slightly more than 10.6 volts for reliable ignition.

The charging system is not working. You should be seeing something over 13.5 volts with engine running. Well charged battery should allow the charging system to produce 14.x volts.

With engine off, check for full battery voltage on Yellow. If that is good then inspect the LR module connections to Yellow, Red/Purple and Black (ground). If all those are correct then the LR voltage regulator module has likely failed.

As an additional test disconnect all stator wires and ohm check. Specs are posted via my signature links.

I recieved the update ignition kit, installed it on the ski and now it wont turn over 3000 rpm, this is after setting the flywheel magnets all the way to the right side of the slot, i tried switching the spark plug leads and it still runs exactly the same????? now my head is spinning...Im guessing this new style ignition fires both plugs at the same time??? long story short is it is only running on the mag cylinder... with the old ignition system the ski ran strong on both cylinders for a few minutes at a time, I know there a no other mechanical issues involved I must have done something wrong or am missing something.....HELP

Why did you sent the magnets a the way to the right?

because the timing was way slow and it would barely run
