    2003 GTX Supercharged Limited

I had my ski out on the water this past week and it shut down with a cloud of smoke. Took it to the dealer and they said I blew cylinder #1. They said I'm looking at about a $2200 engine and close to 15 hours of labor. Does this sound right?

I also have the option of buying a new engine and having them install it(just with no warranty on the engine)

    PLEASE HELP

Sort of depends what was damaged. Where are you located?

I am in NJ. It needs a whole new short block as the pistons is completely gone.

So are you saying they will rebuild the one you currently have for $2200, but if you buy a new engine they wont warrenty it? You really need to rebuild the head and supercharger with the new ss valves or you'll be shelling much more out.

No. The $2200 is for a new factory rebuilt motor with a year warranty. Then they said I am probably looking at about another 15 hours in labor time

Actually the price of the rebuilt engine isn't too bad if it is the long block (engine/head). Sounds sort of like a SBT motor. The 15 hours is probabaly gonna cost you $1500. So the question is really is you ski worth $3800? I am in the same "boat" as you. I have a 2004 GTX Limited SC Mint with an unbuildable core. Therefore my engine cost doing the work myself is $3500+. If I cant find a better option, I'll give up and part it out.

Dont know why a "new engine" wouldn't be under warrenty though. Sounds dicy if you ask me.

Thanks Mouse. If I buy the engine on my own and have them install it, they will only guarantee the labor, not the engine itself.
