Not happy with my new R&D intake grate

Finally got my R&D intake grate today and i'm not impressed with the quality. I was hoping for super smooth lines and curves but this one has little gouges and rough lines. The fin on the right seems bent and not symmetrical with the left side. Is this normal? I might return it for another. Kinda pissed

I would return it. Looks like a bad casting. Mine is smooth and straight. Click image for larger version.

Mine was shitty looking, really poor casting. I also expected a smooth, sweet looking piece of kit. When you compare it to a SS wear ring and new Solas prop, it's a whole different world.

My stock grate with 90hrs on looked new in comparison. I couldn't be arsed to swap it, it works and I don't see it. But yes, makes you feel a bit ripped off.

Mine never looked as rough as yours.... Personally, I wasn't happy with the cavitation it created on a ski that never had it before. I'm talking about out of the hole cavitation. When tested on 100% stock, some mods but before tune and after tune. When I swapped OEM Vs. R&D, the R&D cavitated out the hole every time.

While I'm sure the R&D offers better pump filling once ski move forward, I can't see it working as well out of the hole (0-10mph) because it's center scoop comes forward a lot and blocks some of the forward opening (making pump opening smaller). Thus I feel restricts water flow when hitting it from idle - until it gets going forward enough then all good.

It will be interesting to see if your R&D sits flush or needs work.

I may try the Riva next...

FWIW: The R&D is all siliconed up tight.

    Man that does look awefull.
I wouldnt like paying the price they want for them with them looking like that.

If it was used I would clean it up and be happy, but heck thats brand new.
