1999 yamaha 1200 pv engine water in back cylinder

What would cause water to get in the back cylinder on a 1999 Yamaha 1200 xl ltd. The cylinder was sent off to Millenium Technologies and replated, etc and every thing was put back together.

Do you think the problem is with the cylinder? head? or what? It is only happening in the back cylinder.

I've also had pitting occur in the base gasket sealing area after having jugs stripped and plated. It causes a small water seep into the cyl and starts to gall the piston in one localized spot. You can fill bigger pits with JB weld and a putty knife to level it, but usually a light coat of 1211 takes care of them. Inspect the base gasket sealing area on the effected jug and see what you find.

When you say base gasket... are you saying the one on top of the cylinder ? Where the head sits? or the one under the cylinder?

base gasket is between crankcase and cylinder. Head gasket is between cylinder and head.

    yes, thanks

there are tabs on the cylinder base gaskets, and they should be on the left side of the motor and forward of each cylinder

It looks like the base gasket is on wrong. I need to finish taking the exhaust off to get to it.. But when you look down at the head you can see the tabs from the first two base cylinders on the left side of the engine but no tab on the third.

Darn Human error. Thanks for the suggestion. Anything else I should check? Since I have the head off I am going to put it on a special table to check to see if there is any warpage on the head.
