Faild MFD and failed ignition and key STX15F

Looking at a used ski this week. I havent seen it yet but seller states that the MFD display died and it also knocked out the key and the ignition. Does this make sense ? I thought they were 2 separate items on the ski. ie one wouldnt affect the other, or am I wrong ?

Ha! I got three for almost free, thinking I could fix them and make money on them... Well, I'm still stuck with them. They cost more to fix than they're worth.
