03 Polaris Virage with broken Connecting Rod
I have a carb 800 CC engine. Bought it broken. Thought I would need just a piston and cylinder. Took the cylinder off and the connecting rod was broken down on the crankshaft end. Enough connecting rod is left around the crank that I cannot remove a good portion of it. Most of the rod remains attached at the piston.
So what is the best medicine? Rebuilt crankshaft from SBT? rebuilt engine from SBT? Give up and part it out? I have never torn apart a lower unit. Is it something I can do myself?
Also, once the engine was able to turn over, I held the safety switch and checked for Spark with the plugs touching the block. I saw nothing. Is this test adequate? I swapped out the starter solenoid with a new one and still saw nothing. Battery cranked easily and was over 12V.
