    08 p-x still cavitating

Alright guys - 08 P-X with a new SBT pump, new wear ring, and speedfreaks nose cone. Out of the hole the ski is cavitating big time. Once it seems to get enough water through the pump the ski is fine. Could it be the prop? When i had it all apart the leading edges seemed fine, any ideas?

Try checking the carbon seal or the pump seal.

Had the carbon seal looked at by a "pro" and said he could see some wear but nothing out of the ordinary for a ski with 135 hours on it. What should i look for? I can pull the pump again and make sure the pump seal is all lined up properly.

With the carbon seal, if the accordian boot is weak, it will compress under acceleration and let you suck air. Unfortunately the best way to check the pump seal is to pull it. Pump seal could also be on backwards. Dont ask how I know that one.

Was the wear ring OEM, or SBT?

How much gap do u have between prop, & wear ring?

Have u checked your engine mounts?

Does the floating ring wobble at idle?

The hat, also known as the floating ring, must sit squarely and centered on the carbon seal. There must also be enough pressure on the carbon seal not to leak air. Move the engine rearward enough so as to have 1/4" driveshaft movement fore/aft, and use a bellow band. Use the R&D pump seal. Ensure the ride plate is sealed properly to the hull just behind the pump shoe.

After all the above is done, there may still be some cavitation.......

well after 2 years of minimal riding and multiple wear rings i caved and took it to a well known local PWC shop. Engine was out of alignment...Needed a new shaft, prop, carbon seal, and a few other parts...
